Maybe it’s because I grew up in a brass household, but these guys impress the hell out of me.
This is the group Lucky Chops, one of their subway performances went viral last year and now, despite still sometimes playing in the subway, they can be found on Pandora, Spotify, and for the next four months all across Europe (they’re going off on a four month, 17-nation Euro tour starting next Tuesday). After just a few days of listening I’m already a fan, especially of the fantastic range and power of the trumpet player.
Also the barritone sax player, who is both supremely skilled and a nut.

As a trumpet player formerly in marching band, nothing’s more satisfying than leaving the staff lines far behind.

Too Many Zoos! <3
I saw these guys in Washington Square Park once when I was heading to class.

Multiphonics and altissimo notes are so easy and fun on the bari sax, which makes how difficult they are on other saxs depressing. I miss playing all of them.

I tried to play Trombone in fifth grade. Because it was the loudest thing I could have after my mom ruled out drums. Mostly I just made lost of noise.

Another Trumpet player here.
I have a vivid memory from marching band from decades ago of ripping off an impromptu high C at the end of the Star Spangled Banner at a football game. I really tore into it as loud as I could and it rung out over the rest of the band. I really ripped it. The reason I remember it was the director noticed it immediately and looked right at me with a huge smile on his face. It added some flare to our typically conservative (boring) performances.

Saw them live this summer, very impressive they even came out after the show to talk and hang out with everyone. Leo P’s other band too many zooz is also pretty awesome.. also believe they did some work on Beyonce’s Lemonade.
